Trump So Far, in Verse
When Donald Trump first took office, in 2016, I felt depressed and defeated. On that inauguration day, I began posting a series of opinion-driven quatrains on Facebook.
On day 2, still unable to climb out of my funk, I wrote another, and then another, and another, eventually writing 365 doggerels for every day of Trump's first year in office (plus one for the anniversary). I published all of them eventually in a book, “Humpty Trumpty Hit A Brick Wall: Donald J. Trump's First White House Year in Verse.”
Now, once again with Trump back in the White House, I'm writing a daily poem—call it doggerel, as that's what these are—on the new D. C. administration. I didn't think I'd do the same this dreary time around but decided, okay, I'll write just one in (dis)honor of the first day.
I did so and then couldn't stop. I'll see how long it can keep up. The thing is, The Donald and minions supply so much on a daily basis that there may be no stopping. And if I don’t stop, I'm planning to publish them, perhaps as “Trump 2.0: The first 100 Days.”
Here’s a selection:
*
Trump keeps Putin at his side,
His good pal a frequent guide.
Does perhaps this current fact
Mean a dark Trump-Putin pact?
Is a secret they both hold
Something all of us aren't told?
*
Trump wants Musk much more aggressive,
Which is instantly depressive.
No one needs that chainsaw schoolboy
Adding to each mounting cruel ploy.
But perhaps if nothing stops him,
He'll forge on till Donald drops him.
*
Donald Trump thinks he is king,
But he's really no such thing.
He's now pictured in a crown,
Though he looks more like a clown.
Yes, he has a golden throne,
It's of gold, and it's his own,
But it's not a throne of plush.
It's the kind you have to flush.
*
Zelensky dictator
Is Trump's new claim.
This is such sick bait, or
Trump's brand-new shame.
Vance goes along with it
Like a good boy.
He's just a rank nitwit
In Trump's employ.
*
Today's the day of presidents,
And many of the residents,
If you were so inclined to rate,
You'd classify as truly great.
On the forty-seven full list,
Just a couple can be dismissed,
But since Washington became first
Now presides the absolute worst.
*
Eric Adams, New York mayor,
Has become Trump's newest player.
He ascended through a nice trick
To become an ardent ICE pick.
Yes, he's there by way of trade-off:
Charges dropped, now start that raid off.
*
"They weren't assaulting, they were assaulted."
When Trump talks like this, he must be halted.
It's Jan. the 6th about which he's vented.
It's proof again that he is demented.
